  Dear Editor,

I am writing this letter to reflect some problems I came across recently and. appeal to the improvement of the service industry.

This weekend I bought an English-Chinese dictionary in a bookstore near my home since its cover is elaborately designed. But when I went home and read carefully, I found that the several pages of the dictionary have been cracked and befouled. What is worse, the misprints spread everywhere in the dictionary and seriously affect my comprehension. Since there was such damage and misprint to the dictionary, I went to the bookstore to require for a replace. But to my surprise, the staff of the bookstore turn down my request rudely and even denied the poor quality of the dictionary.

It goes without saying that todays face-paced and market-oriented economy calls for much higher standard for service industry. However, to my regret, many of the commercials fail to achieve this standard and the quality of the staff needs to be improved. Its self-evident that the poor quality of practitioners in the service industry will not only deeply disappoint customers but also hamper the development of our countrys economy. As a result, I expect your newspaper to appeal to the service industry to attach more importance to the service improvement.

  Thank you for your attention!

  Sincerely yours,

  Sam

Millions of people struggle out Of bed each morning, fumble into some clothes, and make their way to a cup of coffee and the morning newspaper. They need something cheerful to remind them that the rest of the day will be less difficult than getting up. This need may be the reason that many of them turn their half-opened eyes to the comics section of the newspaper as they sip their first cups of coffee of the day.

Cartoons reflect the times and the troubles and worries of people. They give people an opportunity to laugh at themselves and at familiar situations. For example, a cartoon might say that the government of a country is responsible for the bad economy and also show the government leaders as a group of ridiculous people. Being able to use the leaders as scapegoats and to laugh at the leaders somehow makes people feel better about their situation.

Cartoons also make people laugh at their own personal worries. Young people who are not always sure of how to act can smile at their awkwardness。 Old people whose grown children pay little attention to them can chuckle at their neglect and loneliness. Students who have studied too little before an examination can laugh at their anxiety. Everyones problems are made bigger-than-life in the comics. Perhaps the problems seem funny because there is humor in something that is real being made unreal.

A cartoon combines art and humor. When it is skillfully done, a simple line drawing and a few words can make people laugh. Their troubles seem less important, and they enjoy life more fully.

Work and play are two important parts in peoples life but some times they are contradictory whether we can balance them has much to do with our success.

Some people think that we should do more work because everyone has a limited life and we should make as many contributions as we can to society.

Besides we can acquire more knowledge and gain more experience by hard work which will help us a lot later in our life.

Others believe that we should spare enough time for play.

There is a saying that all work and no play makes John a dull boy. Play makes people feel relaxed and free them from the stress of work.

In this sense it is also beneficial to our health. So if we dont play we cant work well. In my opinion we should do more work when we are young be cause we are energetic and we can spend more time playing and enjoying our life when we become aged.

Of course we should never overdo things and never indulge ourselves with play.

as is known to all, the cellphone is very widely used, especially by teenagers who live the life “on the go”. they think it a useful tool for daily life, so they want to have one.

many students think if they have a cellphone, they can keep in touch with their families and friends. they think owing a cellphone is good for their life. some parents also share the same idea.

however, some people don’t agree that students should bring cellphones to school. first, they think it is bad for the students’ health to use cellphones. second, it will add burden to parents because students usually depend on their parents. third, if students use cellphones in school, they may not keep their minds on their studies. they may spend most of their time sending text messages or playing games.

in my opinion, i think owing a cellphone is not a bad thing. however, we should use the cellphones at the right moment. in class, we should make full use of our time to study. do not use cellphones in class to interrupt others. if in emergency, it is not a bad choice to use cellphones.

My hometown, Ryan, is a place full of people. There are many beautiful places in Ryan, among which my favorite is the bund.

There are many beautiful places on the bund, and the music fountain is one of them.

Every holiday season, the fountains are dotted with lights, and the colorful water pours out of the sky and becomes fillet of silk in the air. Some are red, like a blooming rose, some are gold, like countless jewels of gold and silver... The happiest were our children, and the fountains were bursting with umbrellas, screaming, and rushing through the interlaced areas of the water again and again. Everyone enjoyed the moment of joy. Because the fountain is not available every day.

The music fountain goes up and you can see the beautiful flying cloud. Look, the river of the feiyun river, the small ripples, the size of the boats traveling, and occasionally the water birds. When night falls, the flying cloud river is even more beautiful, the bridge that crosses over, give it to wear dazzling jewelry, beautiful extremely.

The beautiful bund adds a gorgeous color to Ryan.

With the development of technology, today we live in the world with hightechnology.

People seem to can’t live without computer and smart phone, oncethey don’t have smart phone at hand for a while, the seem to be lost and feelsomething miss in their life. When I talk to my friends at table, I find themalways play smart phones or check on the text all the time. Though we sit faceto face, the distance between us is so far. The high technology brings isolationbetween people. Some people don’t often visit their parents and friends, forthey believe that a call can solve all the things. Communication in face to faceis far more important than a call. It is time for some people to put down theirsmart phones for a while when they are communicating to others.

In the world of detective novels, Sherlock Holmes is undoubtedly the most famous one. But for me, the greatest detective in novels is Hercule Poirot, a little Belgian who always uses his little grey cells to find the truth.

I really appreciate him for various reasons, such as his having an insight into other people's psychology, his understanding on hunman nature and his being merciful. But most improtant thing is that he looks more like a real human being, compared with Holmes or other legend detectives. He has such a funny appearance, an egg-shaped head and exaggerated moustache . He enjoys delicious cuisine and focuses on his own dressing. He is always humor and likes to mock himself. he prefers to stay with young peole for being attracted by their vigor and energy. And there are still so many lovely features of him I can list.

Anyway, I like him and appreciate him. I always get touched by the philosophy of life in his storys. Hercule Poirot is indeed my favourite detective.

  Should Students Follow Fashions

Young university students are sensible to fashions. Some are keen on following fashions: they use mobile phones of the latest style; they wear stylish clothes; they enjoy popular music.

Some people are not happy with this phenomenon. They argue that university students should focus on studies rather than on fashions. They say fashions cost so much that university students cannot afford them. Some students follow fashions crazily, for fear of losing face. Fashions have caused much trouble on campus.

However, others may hold different opinions. They say fashions can drive students to work harder for a better life and broaden their horizons, which is essential for their future development.

I understand those students who follow fashions, but they must be responsible and not go to extremes. If their family is poor, there is no need for them to have such luxurious hobbies.

Temptation is a force usually attracting people to do immoral(不道德的)things. No one escapes its spell.

Many people have failed because they have become slaves to temptation. Money is a typical tool of temptation. Some youngsters go astray(迷路) beyond cure because of various kinds of temptation. Shot by the bullets coated(上膠的) by “sugar”, some officials are unable to extricate (使擺脫)from abusing their power for personal gain. We have learned that some people betrayed their country because they have been bribed(行賄)by their enemies. Although their duty was to serve their country, the vast amount of money offered by the enemies made their palms itchy. They couldn’t resist the temptation to become rich at once instead of struggling for a lifetime to earn only a little. At last they did some bad things, damaging the interests of their country.

However, the character of a man is, as a rule, determined in his childhood. At that time, his parents, as well as his teachers, must inform them of the dagger of temptation.

A pet is all animal which is raised or kept by people as a companion. In recent years, more and more people, old or young, rich or poor, like to keep a pet such as a dog, a cat, a monkey and so on. Pets are loved by people. They not only are good friends to their masters but also become members of the family. Although they are not human beings, their behavior sometimes is better than the human beings, for they always remain obedient and loyal to the master. There are many stories in which we are told that a pet saved his or her master's life or even traveled thousands of miles to return home. This makes them more lovely. Moreover, trained pets are very helpful. For instance, a trained dog can help the blind to walk and a trained pig can even find out drugs from the imports goods. But pets are sometimes trouble-makers. Some pets such as dogs or snakes may attack people unexpectedly. A lot of people become ill or get infected because of the virus carried hy their pets. And some pets are dirty and poisonous. Therefore, we do not advocate keeping pets.
