Meet Miss Average from around the world as computer works out the most common face in each country -- More than 100 women of 41 different nationalities and ethnicities were photographed in cities all over the world in an effort to find common regional features.
攝影師拍數(shù)千照片，合成世界各地女性大眾臉——在尋找不同地區(qū)“大眾臉”的活動(dòng)中，攝影師分別在全球41個(gè)不同國(guó)家和地區(qū)拍攝了100位女性的照片。
上面報(bào)道中的Miss Average就是指“女性大眾臉”，所謂“大眾臉”也就是具有某地區(qū)人們長(zhǎng)相共同特征的臉龐。不過，很多人都覺得大眾臉是“長(zhǎng)相平庸”的另一種說法，因此不會(huì)把這種稱呼當(dāng)作贊美。相比之下，人們更喜歡聽到別人說自己是celebrity look-alike(明星臉)。
Average和plain這個(gè)詞一樣通常用來表示“平均的、普通的”，例如average Joe/plain Jane都表示各方面都一般，不怎么出眾的“普通人”;而如果在average前面加上above或者below則分別表示“高于”或“低于”一般水平，例如：His grade is above average.(他的成績(jī)屬于中等偏上水平。)
