which在定語從句中只作主語，賓語，表語，修飾物
when，where在定語從句中只作狀語，分別作地點狀語和時間狀語。
如定語從句中缺少句子成份，即，主，賓或表語缺其中任意一項，先行詞又是表物的名詞或代詞，定語從句的關(guān)系詞就用which
如定語從句中不缺少句子成份，即，主，賓或表齊全，如先行詞為表地點的名詞或代詞，定語從句就用where，如先行詞是表時間的名詞或代詞，定語從句就用when引導(dǎo)。
如果是表示地點的詞，則要用where（前提：沒有介詞）
如果是表示時間的，就要用when
如果是表示原因的，如reason 就用why
在一定程度上，IN WHICH與WHERE是相等的。他們修飾 的先行詞是表地點的
例如:The house where I live is beautibul.
=The house in which I live is beautibul.
但是當(dāng)下面兩種情況時就不相等了。
1、若IN提前，只能用WHICH，就不能用WHERE。
例如;The house in( )I live is beautibul.
句中的空就不能填WHERE。
或者:The house ( ) I live in is beautibul.
句中的空也不能填WHERE，因為后面有介詞IN呀。WHERE是副詞，不能跟介詞。
2、若這個表地點的先行詞是人不能到達(dá)的，就不能用WHERE。
例如:先行詞是在墻里的某個東西，那么就只能用IN+WHICH，而不能用 WHERE。

1.in which可以等于when，也可以等于where，但不會等于why.
關(guān)鍵是看定語從句中缺少時間狀語還是地點狀語.
2.例如：
1）I'll never forget these days in/during which I stayed with you.
= I'll never forget these days when I stayed with you.
我永遠(yuǎn)不會忘記我和你待在一起的`日子.
其中：in/during which I stayed with you = when I stayed with you
= I stayed with you in/during which = I stayed with you in/during these days
2）This is the city in which I stayed last year.
= This is the city where I stayed last year.
這就是那個去年我待的地方.
其中：where I stayed last year = in which I stayed last year
= I stayed in which last year = I stayed in the city last year.
3.另外，有的in which找不到合適的關(guān)系副詞代替.
如：I dislike the way in which you treat me.
我不喜歡你對待我的方式.
其中：in which you treat me = you treat me in which
= you treat me in the way
4.for which = why
如：Can you tell me the reason why you were late?
= Can you tell me the reason for which you were late?
你能告訴我你遲到的原因嗎?
其中：why you were late = for which you were late
= you were late for which = you were late for the reason
